Breaking the Big One

My photo gallery from the football game yesterday.

Early in the Purdue game yesterday Akeem Hunt finally broke the big run. He is one of my favorite players to photograph in the open field because of the angles he runs with. He always seems to be in a great position to make a picture. Yesterday he took off on a 62 yard touchdown run. As Hunt ran closer to me the 300mm I was shooting with became too much. Earlier in the day I purposely shot a basketball game with just the 300mm to try and break my bad habit of needing the entire body in the frame. Here it seemed to work out. By not tilting to get the whole body in I captured a Purdue coach in the bokeh cheering Hunt on. This is one of my favorite images of the year.

Return of a Legend

Dave Wegiel Photography

Photo of the Day

Today I covered the final home game for the Purdue Boilermakers. This has been a weird season in which I have not seen them win a game yet. Today was no different, but it was a game that went down to the wire. One of the exciting aspects of the game was the return of Boilermaker legend Drew Brees. Every step of the way Drew has been doubted, and every step of the way he has proven his doubters wrong. He will end up being one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL statistically before it is all said and done. I was not able to photograph him as a player, but I was lucky enough to photograph him a couple of times today. The time that you see above was while Drew was leading the crowd in singing ‘Shout’ between the third…

Three Yards and a Cloud of Dust

My photo gallery from the game last night.

Photo of the Day

Last night I shot the Purdue men’s basketball game against Eastern Illinois. I feel that I had a good night shooting overall, but one picture stuck out in my mind. The picture above is of Purdue sophomore guard Ronnie Johnson fighting through the defense. I love pictures that make the sport look like a different sport. To me this picture makes Ronnie look like he is trying to get through the line in a football game.

Technical Data

The only real adjustment here was a small crop in Lightroom. I really feel as if my settings for Mackey Arena are good enough that I don’t have to do much to the files.

Bonus Pictures

As has become the norm, here are a few bonus shots from the game last night.

Going Deep

Some pictures from the Iowa game yesterday.

Photo of the Day

Yesterday I was shooting the Purdue Football game against Iowa. This was a great game for quite a while. In the end though Purdue could not keep up with Iowa. I did have a few plays come my way though during the game. One of them was this deep pass from Danny Etling to DeAngelo Yancey. DeAngelo has given me a couple of good moments so far in his short career with Purdue. With his talent I think that many more are ahead.

Technical Data

For this picture I performed a small crop along with a couple of minor adjustments in Lightroom. I love how easy sports images are to edit.

Bonus Pictures

Here are a few bonus pictures from the game yesterday. Despite the outcome I had a blast shooting the game. This weekend will see me shoot four sports in three days so this…
