Notre Dame 83 – St. Johns 65

Notre Dame recovered from an early five point deficit last night at the Joyce Center to win easily 83 – 65. A big reason that they pulled away was Charel Allen. She scored 31 points. 19 of those were in the first half. She took over the game when the Irish needed someone to step up. Melissa D’Amico scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Irish as well. She would have been the story if not for Allen’s big night. D’Amico has not looked that great to me. In fact her main competition freshman Erica Williamson had a great game last time out for the Irish. Maybe this was a factor in D’Amico stepping it up last night. In any event the crowd was very loud and supportive. The crowd is the reason that these games are so fun to go to. On some nights Notre Dame looks unstoppable, and on others they look horrible. They are young though, and seem to be playing better as the season goes on. The freshman trio played very well tonight on defense. Their energy is hard to beat on the court. Their next home game is on Saturday against Syracuse.
