When is 11 > than 10?

LewJack was on fire tonight

Tonight is one example of when eleven is greater than ten. The Wisconsin Badgers came into West Lafayette ranked 1oth after their huge win against then #1 Ohio State. The Boilers were jumped by the Badgers, and sat ranked 11th. The last time these two teams met Wisconsin came away with a seven point win in Madison. Purdue actually had a one point lead with under a minute left thanks to five straight points by DJ Byrd. Things didn’t go Purdue’s way though, and they gave up a 8-0 run to end the game. I almost went to that game, but the snowstorm kept me away. What a difference two weeks makes. Instead of a blizzard it was 60 degrees in West Lafayette today. It was a beautiful day to be outside, but of course I had something to do inside. Continue reading

College Football Wrap (Week 10 Edition)

Once again a busy week has prevented me from putting together the wrap that I had started. This is more to get my picks from last week out of the way so that this week’s preview can be a little shorter. Purdue pulled off the upset of Wisconsin if you only count first half scores, or scores not associated with turnovers. Of course both of those count so the Boilers still need two wins to become bowl eligible. Last week I talked about how this week’s picks would bring me to 100 on the season. I went 7-3 for the week to bring me to 82-18. I can even do that math being an OLS major. Each week I feel that I have been doing okay, but I would like to be a bit higher than 82%. That being said I have not been slacking when it comes to picking the games outside of the Big Ten Conference. Two of my losses last week were in tough SEC games. I guess I have to do a bit more homework before I do my picks. Of course a little luck would not hurt. Here is how I did last week (as usual the actual score is in parenthesis): Continue reading

Should I Be Encouraged?

Sean Robinson sacked in the second quarter

Yesterday I walked away from the game with much more hope than I thought that I would going into it. We had some logistical problems that caused me to miss the onside kick to start the game. Once there though I saw a team in the first half that looked like a football team. It was amazing how much better the defense looked when they were rested. Yet after a day to think about the game I wondered if I should be happy with that result. Last season we were up in arms because the team committed too many turnovers. The team righted that ship against Ohio State, and things started to turn around. Yesterday the Boilers finally had a good outing, but turnovers killed them. I know all the reasons why you should look past the turnovers, but that is hard to do.  Continue reading

Games Notes: Purdue Boilermakers vs. #7 Wisconsin Badgers

We may see this flag a lot on Saturday

Well this post will be tough. The Boilers have lost the last two games by a combined 93-10. They have lost their last two to the Badgers by a combined score of 61-3. That does not inspire great confidence in me as I prepare to head down to West Lafayette. A lot of people are talking about how we were in a similar situation last season with #7 Ohio State coming into town. This is not the same situation. The Purdue team last season had lost some tight games in their tailspin. This team has gotten their butts kicked the last two games, and are showing no signs of coming out of it.  Continue reading

csd Flashback: #10 Wisconsin @ #17 Purdue

#10 Wisconsin Badgers 28 – #17 Purdue Boilermakers 21

Eleven years ago Saturday I saw a great game at Ross-Ade Stadium. We went into the game knowing that anyone could go down at any time in Ross-Ade. An annoying Wisconsin fan ended up right in front of us in the student section with a Ron Dayne jersey on. We were not nearly as bad as we should have been to a fan crashing the student section. That would all be remedied later on in the game.  Continue reading

College Football Weekly Wrap (Week 8 Edition)

Once again I am back to offer up some thoughts on the games that I did not see in person last week. Through the magic of DVR I was able to watch a few games from around the country. As usual here are my thoughts on the week that was:
