It has been known that in the near future that Homer Drew would step down as head coach of Valparaiso. It has also been known that his son Bryce would be the one to take over. It just was not known that it would be so soon. This morning I got on the computer after breakfast and saw that Homer was stepping down as the Valpo coach. That was a huge surprise to me. I had not heard any rumblings that his retirement was imminent. He meant a lot to the school, and will be a hard act to follow. Continue reading
I have tried to get to Emory Bauer Field a couple of times this season to see Valpo play, but weather always stepped in and stopped the game. Today was the last chance that I had to see Valpo play. Looking at the forecast I thought weather would win once again. When I left my house the temperature was in the high 40′s, windy, foggy, and even raining. Who would want to watch one game in this let alone two? That would be me. The good thing about watching a game at Valpo (besides the fact it is free) is that you can watch the game from your car if you want to. I had to take advantage of that a couple of times as the rain was just too much. With warmer temps it would not have been a problem, but as cold as it was it would have been foolish to sit out in a downpour. Besides that I learned late last year during the Purdue – Michigan football game that it would behoove me to keep my camera as dry as possible. Continue reading
Tonight I was at the first round game of the CIT in Valpo. Knowing that they would not be in the big dance Valpo fans were hoping for a NIT bid. With all the weird things surrounding the conference tourneys this year that was a long shot. I am not the loyal Valpo fan, but I was happy that they did not get the NIT so that they could have at least one more home game. Tonight they played the team that Purdue’s opponent in the tourney St. Peter’s beat to get there. The Iona Gaels come in with a better RPI, but both teams appeared to be fairly even. On paper it looked as if it would be one good game. Continue reading
Here are some of the pictures I took last night at the game. I had a lot I liked so I may have another post tomorrow with the rest. These are the ones that I thought were the best though.
Last night I went to the ARC to see the Crusaders on Senior Night. After the game last Saturday I had high hopes for this game. I thought that Valpo would be playing for a shot at the regular season Horizon League title. A rough week made this game meaningless as far as the standings go. That is not to say that the game was not meaningless. This was senior night so naturally the game meant a little more. With the team knowing that they would be hosting a game Tuesday in the Horizon League Tournament they knew that it would not be their final game at the ARC, but it would be special nonetheless. Here are the pictures finally from Tuesday nights game. I only took them when Valpo was on offense on my side of the court, and actually put my camera down to enjoy the second half. The funny thing is that I actually seem to see more when looking through my lens.
Last night I had a ticket to the Valpo game against Ball State in my hands so I decided to make the short trip to Valpo. The ticket was part of the package I bought in order to get into the Purdue game. I agree with Valpo trying to get the most out of the game, but I would have liked a choice of the games in the package. This is the only one I think that is on a day that Purdue does not have a game. Most of the time the games are at the same time. Continue reading
This is a little bigger than most of the galleries. I had a few pictures that I liked and decided to share most of them. At some point I may post a few more that didn’t make it in here.
Last night the Valparaiso Crusaders used a record crowd to help fuel them for a large majority of the game. They had a lead on the Boilers into the second half. A great half by Brandon Wood helped spark Valpo early on, but the Boilers were just too much at the end. This is one of those games where the final score really does not tell the story of the game. Here are a few of the pictures that I took at the basketball game Thursday night.
